My View on Traffic Problems
There is no doubt that traffic congestion becomes a growing worry for the residents of most urban areas. Some major roads are regularly choked with traffic in rush hours. The limited transport capacity contributes largely to the vexing problem. How to solve the headache?
The existing solutions to traffic jam mainly aim at creating metro bus systems and broadening major roads. Widening the existing roads can solve traffic snarls on some level. Soaring car ownership compounds the chronic annoying problem, so we must sharply reduce the heavy reliance on cars and drive a shift to the mass transportation. It is a cheap and good way. We can create a system of customized bus routes and highlight the development of subways, trolleys and light rail. The effective combination of these solutions will enable the urban areas to possess a smooth traffic.
If there is any single factor that makes for success in living, it is the ability to profit by defeat. Every success I know has been achieved because the person was able to analyze defeat and actually profit by it in his next undertaking.
Confuse defeat with failure, and you are doomed indeed to failure. For it isn‘t defeat that makes you fail: it is your own refusal to see in defeat the guide and encouragement to success.
Defeats are nothing to be ashamed of. They are routine incidents in the life of every man who achieves success. But defeat is a dead loss unless you do face it without humiliation, analyze it and learn why you failed. Defeat, in other words, can help to cure its own cause. Not only does defeat prepare us for success, but nothing can arouse within us such a compelling desire to succeed. If you let a baby grasp a rod and try to pull it away, he will cling more and more tightly until his whole weight is suspended. It is this same reaction which should give you new and greater strength every time you are defeated.
If you exploit the power which defeat gives, you can accomplish with it far more than you are capable of.
The Cobbler and the Banker
By La Fontaine
A cobbler passed his time in singing from morning till night;it was wonderful to see, wonderful to hear him;he was more contented in shoes, than was any of the seven sages. His neighbor,on the contrary, who was rolling in wealth, sung but little and slept less.He was a banker;when by chance he fell into a doze at day-break,the cobbler 12 awoke him with his song. The banker complained sadly that Providence had not made sleep a saleable commodity, like edibles or drinkables.
Having at length sent for the songster,he said to him,
"How much a year do you earn,Master Gregory?"
"How much a year, sir?"said the merry cobbler laughing,"I have reckon in that way, living as I do from one day to another;somehow I manage to reach the end of the year;each day brings its meal."
"Well then! How much a day do you earn,my friend?"
"Sometimes more, sometimes less;but the worst of it is,-and,without that our earnings would be very tolerable, a number of days occur in the year on which we are forbidden to work;and the curate, moreover,is constantly adding some new saint to the list.
The banker, laughing at his simplicity, said,"In the future I shall place you above want.Take this hundred crowns, preserve them carefully, and make use of them in time of need."
The cobbler fancied he beheld all the wealth which the earth had produced in the past century for the use of mankind.Returning home,he buried his money and his happiness at the same time,No more singin;he lost his voice, the moment he acquired that which is the source of so much grief.Sleep quitted his dwelling; and cares, suspicions, and false alarms took its place,All day,his eye wandered in the direction of his treasure;and at night,if some stray cat made a noise, the cat was robbing him.
At length the poor man ran to the house of his rich neighbor;"Give my back." said he,"sleep and my voice, and take your hundred crowns."

Our school is much more beautiful than before. The grass in front of the office building is so green. The river beside it is so clean and the trees around it are so tall. Our classroom building has changed a lot. It has become higher and more new than last term.

We have come into the third year. We are a little nervous. We're very busy today. We have three new teachers. We all like them. Today just as usual, we have been busy doing everything, but I like life like this. Busy days can make me happy and excited.
This is my first day of school. It is busy but interesting. I like my classroom, my school and I like my first day.
Getting up early has been regarded as a good habit since ancient times. Many years ago, people thought that if we went to bed early and got up early, we would be vigorous the whole day.
In fact, spring is the best seasonof a year; morning is the best time of a day.In the morning, the air is the freshest and people are usually in the best conditions. Many of us may have the experiences that we memorize some things more quickly and accurately in the morning than at any other time of the day. If we do some exercises or only take a short walk in the morning, we will be full of energy the whole day. Also we will have enough time to prepare our work of the day if we get up early. In short, getting up early can do us a lot of good.
Let us remember getting up early is a good habit and try our best to keep it. We will certainly benefit a lot from it.
Why Body Language Is Important?
When you learn a foreign language, you must learn more than the vocabulary and the grammar. To communicate successfully, you must also learn the non-verbal language, or “body language”of that culture. “Body language” is a term used to describe facial expression, gestures, and other movements of the body that send messages. This means of communication is so important that we may actually say more with our movements than with words.
For some messages, words are not enough. Speaking a foreign language is sometimes difficult because we may not understand the non-verbal signals of another culture. For example, nodding the head up and down is a gesture that may communicate different messages in different parts of the world. In North America, it means “I agree”. In the Middle East, nodding the head down means “Iagree” and up means “I disagree”. In a conversation among Japanese it often simply means “I’m listening”.
Eye contact is also very meaningful, but it can also mean different things indifferent countries. In some Spanish-speaking countries, children show respect to an old person by not looking directly into the person’s eye during aconversation. In other cultures, looking into a person’s eye is expected. For example, if you don’t do it in the United States, people may think that you areafraid, embarrassed, or angry. In the Middle East, direct eye contact in a conversation is more continuous than in many other parts of the world. People who are not used to this may feel uncomfortable.
before the 1850's, the united states had a number of small colleges, most of them dating from colonial days。 they were small, church connected institutions whose primary concern was to shape the moral character of their students。
throughout europe, institutions of higher learning had developed, bearing the ancient name of university。 in german university was concerned primarily with creating and spreading knowledge, not morals。 between mid-century and the end of the 1800's, more than nine thousand young americans, dissatisfied with their training at home, went to germany for advanced study。 some of them return to become presidents of venerable colleges-----harvard, yale, columbia---and transform them into modern universities。 the new presidents broke all ties with the churches and brought in a new kind of faculty。
professors were hired for their knowledge of a subject, not because they were of the proper faith and had a strong arm for disciplining students。 the new principle was that a university was to create knowledge as well as pass it on, and this called for a faculty composed of teacher-scholars。 drilling and learning by rote were replaced by the german method of lecturing, in which the professor's own research was presented in class。 graduate training leading to the ph。d。, an ancient german degree signifying the highest level of advanced scholarly attainment, was introduced。 with the establishment of the seminar system, graduate student learned to question, analyze, and conduct their own research。
at the same time, the new university greatly expanded in size and course offerings, breaking completely out of the old, constricted curriculum of mathematics, classics, rhetoric, and music。 the president of harvard pioneered the elective system, by which students were able to choose their own course of study。 the notion of major fields of study emerged。 the new goal was to make the university relevant to the real pursuits of the world。 paying close heed to the practical needs of society, the new universities trained men and women to work at its tasks, with engineering students being the most characteristic of the new regime。 students were also trained as economists, architects, agriculturalists, social welfare workers, and teachers。
