　　Good morning, ladies and gentemen. This is Li Hua from Senior Three. I’m here today to share with you a good lesson from an overseas Chinese student living in Germany. It is a true story.

　　After years of hard work, this Chinese student graduated with amazing academic achievements. Everyone thought he was going to get a good job easily and have a bright future. But to his disappointment, he was not even allowed the chance for an interview! The third time he was turned down, he couldn’t help telephoning the pany to ask why they didn’t want him. The answer was simple, “We don’t hire dishonest people in Germany.”

　　What was wrong you might wonder? The truth is, shortly aften he arrived in Germany, this clever student found that it was easy to skip buying subway tickets. So, to save money, he often went without a ticket. As a result, he had been caught without a ticket in the subway three times.

　　From this story, we learn that we may get short-term benefits by dishonest means, but the truth will e out sooner or later and the cost is high. So remember: honest is the best policy.

　　most of us may have such eperiences: when you go to some place far away form the city, you live in and think you know nobody there, you are surprised to find that you should run into one of old classmates on the street! perhaps both of you would cry out, “what a small world!” why is the world getting smaller and smaller? for one thing, modern technology has made various means of transportation more and more advanced. buses, trains, planes, tais, ships are available in most cities of the world. they carry goods and passengers to and from every corner of the world. for another thing, with the development of modern society, people are contacting with one another more frequently. everyday we must deal with a lot of people known or unknown to us before. the more advanced a society, the more contacts with others we make. so we draw to the conclusion that as long as technology makes progress, the world will be getting smaller and smaller.

　　John wanted to quit his life. He went to the woods to have one last talk with God,

　　“God”, John said, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”

　　His answer surprised John.

　　“Look around” said God “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”

　　“Yes.” John replied.

　　“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took good care of them. I gave them light and water. The fern quickly grew. Yet, nothing came from the bamboo seed.

　　But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.” He said.

　　“In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit” He said.

　　“Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant…But just six months later the bamboo rose to over on hundred feet tall. It had spent the five year growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.

　　“Did you know, John, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots? I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.”

　　“Don’t compare yourself to other. God said, “The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet, they both make the forest beautiful .”

　　About five years ago, Chinese government made the decision of canceling the Golden Week, which is a long holiday for the working people. Such decision has caused the public’s heat discussion. Long holidays give people the time to relax, while long holidays have draws, too.

　　On the one hand, long holidays provides the time for working people to go home and stay with family. Most people go to work far away from their homes, the far distance causes them lack of enough time to visit parents on weekends. So if they want to spend time with family, long holidays will be needed. Chinese tradition pays special attention to the family union, the long days of vacation give people the chance to stay with family.

　　On the other hand, long holidays provides the time for people relax and go for travel, the flooded with tourists in the scenic sites and spots damage the preservation of historic things.
