英語作文 篇1
Traffic congestion has long been a problem of great concern and complaint in big cities. It has caused a lot of inconvenience to people's life and work. The first cause is the great increase in the number of private cars.
Cars take up more space but they carry fewer people. Some private car drivers, ignoring traffic regulations, drive only for the sake of their own convenience, blocking the way of other public transportation vehicles. The second cause is the slow and inefficient construction and improvement of the roads and streets.
With a large population and numbers of automobiles increasing, some roads still remain unimproved, which will surely lead to problems. Let all of us act now to solve it.

A Letter of Application for a Student Loan
October 14, 20xx
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you to apply for a student loan. As a freshman from the English Department, I have much financial difficulty in continuing my study.
There are five members in my family. My father is the only breadwinner of the whole family while my mother was laid off two years ago. My grandmother has been suffering a chronic illness for more than five years. My younger brother is now studying in a high school. I took part-time jobs during the summer vacation, but what I have earned is far from enough for me to pay the required tuition fees. In order to continue my study, I have to apply for a student loan.
If my request is granted, I will make good use of the money and put my heart into study. I will definitely pay back the loan according to the requirements. I hope that you will consider my application.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Gao Peng
英語作文 篇3
some people say that the best way to raise children is to them to be independent thinkers. other people disagree and say that children need to be taught discipline in order to let them successful. in other word, children should either be granted(假定) freedom, or be given more discipline. i tend to agree with a policy of firm(穩(wěn)固的) discipline.the people whose view places emphasis(重點) on encouraging children to think freely hope the child will be able to understand and govern(管理) the world. the child is considered as an “equal” to the adult. this view has been popular in the western countries, where corporal(身體的) punishment of children is now illegal. the concept(觀念) of “rights” for children is part of a wider political(政治上的`) movement that also asserts(聲稱) right for women, animals and environment.
the pro-discipline view is based on the commonsensical(常識) observation(觀察) that, if left unchecked(沒有管束的),children behave stupidly and even run amok(殺人狂地, 狂亂的). disciplinarians(嚴(yán)格的人) believe that physical(肉體的) constrains(強(qiáng)迫) and punishments imposed(強(qiáng)加于) by adult teach the child that his selfishness, laziness and running wild will lead him to a bad life. the child then gains wisdom(明智) through lessons. constraints(約束) and punishments range from a simple withdrawing(離開) of a “ privilege(特權(quán))” such as pocket money, limited time for watching tv, to a remark(談?wù)? of “beating”. yet the discipline does not have to be harsh(粗糙的). sanctions(打破國際制裁的個人) are only applied(實用的) if the child behaves stupidly.discipline has many areas of practical(實踐的), one of the most important of which is education. the chinese proverb says, “ the strict teacher can cultivate(培養(yǎng)) an outstanding(杰出的) student.” some adults have observed(注意到) that strict schools often achieve good academic(大學(xué)生, 大學(xué)的) accomplishment(成就). likewise(同樣地), people reckon(計算) that disciplined children are likely to become productive persons.
it is obvious to me that an uncontrolled child who does dangerous matters can cause injury(損害) to himself and to others. and many violent teenagers appear to behave no fear of punishment for illegal action. so parents should not give children a free hand, especially when they can’t tell right from wrong. adults have a serious duty of supervising(監(jiān)督) the young.
discipline is justified because adults are generally wiser than children. discipline in childhood fosters(養(yǎng)育) the child for the hardship of his future life.
英語作文 篇4
Bad habits start growing on almost every one of us without being noticed。 Once we realize the bad habits or once they are pointed out to us, it is a wise decision that we get rid of them immediately。 But to get rid of a bad habit is not as easy a thing as we sometimes think。 Here is how:
To get rid of a bad habit,it is important that we first get to know how harmful the habit really is。 Take the habit of smoking as an example。 Obviously, smoking is harmful to one's health。 It can result in lung cancer and heart attack。 Besides, smoking is awasteof money。 A heavy smoker spends almost as much money a day as he pays for his own meals。 So if he can realize the danger and waste, it is likely that he may stop smoking at once。
To get rid of a bad habit, it is essential that we also have a strong will。 Let's again take the habit of smoking for example。 Many smokers pick up the habit again soon after they give it up。A lot of them cannot tell how many times they have attempted to give up smoking and how many times they have failed to do so。 Therefore, it is impossible to get rid of any bad habit if we change our minds constantly。
Although it is not so easy to get rid of a bad habit, many people have succeeded in doing so, setting us good models。 We should learn from these models and go out of our way to do away with our bad habits, whatever it takes。
英語作文 篇5
Attending schools abroad has many advantages. In the first place, by looking at our own country from outside, we can best see the strong points and weak points of our nation and therefore widen our vision and broaden our minds. Second, while studying in a foreign country, we can travel widely, visiting famous scenic spots and making friends with the local people. Thirdly we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in the second language may be improved quickly. But the most important thing in attending a foreign university is to get acquainted with the latest knowledge in science and technology and make use of the first-rate facilities available. For all these advantages, it is really worthwhile to go abroad for education.
However, as everything has two sides, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign university. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most of the students who are ready to go abroad do not adequate knowledge of the language spoken there. As a result, on arriving there, they will find it difficult to understand what the instructors are saying. Besides, for lack of knowledge of the customs and way of life of the local people, they may run into trouble in dealing with various situations. Therefore, misunderstandings often arise. Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country, so most students have to find part-tine jobs in order to help support themselves. Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and some students may even fail in their courses and learn little.
Therefore, given an opportunity to attend a school abroad, one must consider both sides of the factors carefully before making up his mind. On the whole, it is a good thing to go and study abroad particularly when the subject is very weak or not available in our country. But on the other hand, one must not lose sight of the disadvantages.
英語作文 篇6
When facing a TV field interview on “are you happy?”, those people, wearing decent or fashionable clothes and carrying expensive bags, stunned and hesitated to response, with their puzzled eyes wide open. On the contrary, the beggar in rags confidently answered “I’m very happy”, grinning from ear to ear and contenting himself with appetizing smell of a fried chicken leg in his bowl.
In a comparative way, the pictures vividly present us a philosophy: wealth isn’t in proportion to happiness. Happiness is nothing but subjective perception. It doesn’t mean that the wealthier you are, the happier you are. Just as depicted in the pictures, those possessing more property than the beggar still couldn’t feel that they live happy lives. On the other hand, if approached inappropriately, more wealth may cause huge disasters. To a great extent, some officiallings or second rich generations go astray or commit crimes mostly because of abusing huge fortunes inherited from their prestigious parents.
Happiness is everyone’s pursuit but it is not directly proportional to wealth. Wealth shouldn’t be treated as the best measure of happiness. Only by cherishing what you own now and persisting in achieving what you desire will you experience the real happiness.
英語作文 篇7
With the rapidly development of society, modern people are supposed to be mindful of the inter-personal relation in order to boost productivity or come a long way in the future.
However, there are no denying that the misunderstanding always exist among people, the barrier which people have no alternative but to remove.Initialy,we must learn the reason why the misunderstanding appear among people.Sometimes, the sense of hornor may cause the conflict because of the profit between the two people.Alao, the same words in different situations could create different meanings, which is one of the most significant sources in the interrelationship among persons.
To keep away from the quarrel, one of the best ways is to be helpful and optimistic.Calming,to some extent, can be hard to overstate the importance of it.After all,the cornerstone of argument is the collision which may be avoided,if there one of the individual is kind or good at the inter-personal skills.
英語作文 篇8
Weddings vary from nation to nation, from area to area and from the past to the present. Nevertheless, all people consider weddings as important and happy events.
People of the Western World go to church for their weddings while some tribes in Africa hold their weddings in the open with a camp-fire and much dancing.
In China, weddings are different from those abroad. In the past people in our countryside used to carry the bride with a sedan chair from her parents' house to her new home. Now sedan chairs are seldom seen. In-stead,the bridegroom may take the bride to their own new house by bicycle or by tractor. In our cities the bride prefers a taxi decorated with flowers and a Chinese character that means"double-happiness" on the taxi's win-dow. However, both in the countryside and in cities a wedding feast is in-dispensable. Relatives and friends are invited to the feast to eat and drink to the happiness of the bride and bridegroom.

英語命題作文:父親節(jié)就要到了,請寫一篇以我的父親為題的英語作文。
My FatherThere is always a brilliant image living in my heart. That is my dear father. Seen through the eyes of many other people, father seems to be a very ordinary person. But he is quite extraordinary in my eyes, I have never lost my wonder at his good-personalities such as diligence, devotion, care, optimism ever since my childhood.
Being a farmer, father works very hard in the fields all the year round. He works from dawn till dusk every day and even till midnight when it is the harvest season. He seldom enjoys leisure with other farmers even if the farm work is not much. He chooses to live a busy life with reluctance to stop for a while.Father devotes all himself to our family.
As we are poor, he always tries his best to support our family and afford the tuitions for my brother and me. For the whole family, for brother and me, he never stops working laboriously in the fields throughout the year. Now he has got a wrinkled face and white hair because of excessive hard work, looking much older and weaker than any other person of his age. In spite of all this, father never complains to us. It is his full devotion that we're living a better life now. It is his full devotion that both my brother and I are able to study at college.Father shows much care to us children and my mother as well. Whenever there is any delicious food on the table, he just leaves it to us while he takes the simple one himself. If my brother and I fall ill, he will not hesitate a moment to get some medicine for us or take us to see the doctor.
My mother suffers a bad disease. Father looks after her very carefully. He never lets mother do any heavy work both at home and in the field. Mother appreciates him m much that she often praises him as a model husband before others.Father is a person full of optimism. He never complains about our poor life. He is never frustrated by trouble. He often tells us that everything will be all right if we have enough confidence in life. Due to his optimism, we are all confident to face our life and work.We all think that father is not in the least an ordinary man. He plays an extraordinary role in my family. We can't have anything without him. Now I'm pursuing further studies at college far away from father. I miss him very much. And I often see him in my dreams. His great image is deeply carved in my mind.
